This class is suitable for beginners and suggested for ages 16 and up. All materials will be provided.

Participants will be guided by artist Julie Mader to create a tartan pattern on a 8" x 54” crepe de chine scarf blank in colors of their own choosing.  Using brushes silk dyes will be applied in overlapping layers to create depth and pattern for a one-of-a-kind work of wearable art.  The cost of the class includes having the dyes set by the artist (who will ship the projects to ECCOTA for pickup in 7-10 days max. turnaround time).

WHY STEAM SET?  Steam setting results in slightly brighter colors on the finished product.  I am offering steam-set of the dyes with the crepe de chine tartan scarves since there is a higher chance that there will be areas of pure white desired at the end of painting the tartan pattern.  Steam setting will reserve the bright white (whereas white areas will be dulled during a chemical set due to the nature of the process).

The teaching artist will steam set the scarf, wash it in professional detergent to remove any loose dyes, press the scarf and ship it back to ECCOTA where it may be picked up.
