The Elk County Council on the Arts is now accepting applications to fill two (2) positions of Arts Assistants. This is a summer internship with funding graciously provided by the Stackpole-Hall Foundation and PHEAA.

Students must be residents of Elk County and attend PHEAA SWSP-eligible schools. You do not need to be PHEAA eligible to apply, but you must complete the application as part of the process.

Applicants do not have to be artistic or have in-depth art experience, but they must have an interest in the arts. Art, education, communication, business, or humanities-related majors are preferred but all majors will be considered.

Details: Two (2) positions are available during the summer 2024 work-study term, May - August 2024, with the possibility of additional dates extending into late August. ECCOTA interns must have reliable transportation, be available to work evenings and weekends, work well with children, and have knowledge of the area. All ECCOTA employees are required to have PA state child abuse clearances, which we help interns acquire.

Applicants do not have to be artistic or have in-depth art experience, but they must have an interest in the arts.

Duties include:
Developing, planning, and instructing classes and workshops for children as part of our summer youth programming.
Assisting with planning and implementation of the Anything Art Show, Summer Theatre Camp, Chalk the Walk, and weekly art programming and classes.
Planning, promoting, and implementing additional art activities and opportunities to engage the public, specifically focusing on youth.
Engaging with customers to create a good impression and generate sales.
Processing sales transactions.
Providing information to customers regarding artists and regional attractions.
Assisting with daily operations.
Assisting with special events including exhibit openings.
Maintaining cleanliness of the gallery space.
Assisting with window and merchandise displays as needed.
Accepting other duties as assigned.

ECCOTA employees happily assist customers with purchases, inform customers about artists, events, and exhibits, process sales transactions, and tend to the upkeep of the gallery space.

Our goal is always to create a lasting and pleasant relationship with customers and local artist partners.

This position requires an organized thinker who works well with a diverse day-to-day schedule. This is not an internship that will put you in a cubicle pushing papers for eight hours every day. Instead, this is an internship that will allow the right person an opportunity to have active days, take a leadership role, and explore many facets of arts-based education, planning, programming, and funding right here in the heart of Elk County.

Interested students should FIRST complete the PHEAA Application linked below, THEN upload it when completing the Intern Application, also linked below.
