Summer Theater Camp Director

The Elk County Council on the Arts (ECCOTA) is seeking a Director for their annual Summer Theater Camp musical, scheduled for June 10-14, 2019 at the St. Marys Area High School.

The ideal candidate for this position will be comfortable directing children of all ages. They will have the ability to provide excellent leadership and utilize superior organizational skills in order to execute a musical production in just 5 days.

Summer Theater Camp is a week-long immersive theater experience for students entering grades 3 - 12 in the fall of 2019. Campers begin the week ready to learn lines, songs, and choreography. The week will culminate with a Friday evening performance that is open to the public. Directors can expect between 20 to 40 students to participate. ECCOTA will coordinate help with set design, props, lighting, costumes, choreography, etc, as needed.

Duties include:
Holding camp daily from 9AM – 4PM
Directing a final public performance on June 14
Securing the rights to a musical production that will appeal to students and the public
Adhering to a strict budget set by ECCOTA
Holding auditions for students entering grades 6+ for leading roles
Blocking the show to fit within an approximately one hour timeframe
Executing an artistic vision for a minimalist set design including props
Assigning appropriate roles to all students based on their skill level
Collaborating with students and adults who are assisting with set design, choreography, etc
Representing ECCOTA in a professional manner

This is a contracted position. Copies of appropriate clearances must be presented before final contracts are signed. Compensation will vary based on experience and total budget estimates.
